Hot water cylinder and heating system worked on by Paul

An immersion heater is the electric element that heats the water in a hot water cylinder, either as the main hot water or as a backup to the boiler. When it fails you get no hot water from the tank, or it never gets properly hot, and a stuck thermostat can send your electricity bill through the roof by heating constantly.

Paul diagnoses whether it is the element or the thermostat that has gone, replaces the right part, and checks the cylinder and controls are working as they should. If you are relying on the immersion because the boiler is down, he can sort that side too as a Gas Safe engineer.

    Find out what has failed

No hot water usually means a burnt-out element; water that heats non-stop or not enough usually means the thermostat. Paul checks which it is.

  2. 02

    The right part fitted safely

The failed element or thermostat is replaced with the correct part, fitted and sealed properly on the cylinder.

  3. 03

    Tested and set right

He tests it heats the water to a safe, sensible temperature and checks the controls, so you get reliable hot water without wasting electric.

A typical job

A typical immersion job

A household on a cylinder suddenly has no hot water and the boiler is fine. Paul tests the immersion, finds the element has burnt out, fits a new one and a fresh thermostat, sets it to a safe temperature and checks it heats properly. Hot water back the same day, and set so it is not wasting electricity.

A fair fixed price, agreed with Paul before he starts. No call-out fee bolted on the end, no hidden extras. If a job turns out bigger than it looked, he stops and tells you first.

Immersion heater questions, answered

What is an immersion heater?

It is an electric element inside a hot water cylinder that heats the water, either as your main hot water or as a backup to the boiler. When it fails you lose hot water from the tank.

Why is my immersion heater not heating the water?

Usually a burnt-out element or a failed thermostat. Paul tests which it is and replaces the right part so you have hot water again.

My immersion is sending my electric bill sky-high, why?

Often a stuck thermostat leaving it heating constantly, or it being left on all the time. Paul checks the thermostat and controls and sets it to run sensibly.
